Yahoo partners with Sigma Designs, Hisense, MIPS Technologies and ViewSonic

Yahoo’s new Partnerships With Sigma Designs, Hisense, MIPS Technologies and ViewSonic will globally expand the availability of the Yahoo Widget Engine. The Yahoo Widget engine, also called Yahoo! TV Widgets, deliver a Cinematic Internet experience to televisions from Sony, LG, Samsung and VIZIO. By buying a TV, consumers can now get access to their favorite movies, TV shows and Web services.
Yahoo said the partnerships will increase the availability of the Yahoo Widget Engine worldwide, delivering Internet technologies to more TVs and other electronics in the first months of 2010. Yahoo TV Widgets are now available on all major consumer electronic devices worldwide. Yahoo said it also released its Widget Development Kit (WDK), enabling developers to create TV Widgets and effectively reach millions of people.
Arlo Rose, senior director of Yahoo Connected TV said: “Consumers are in love with their TVs and are now demanding Internet to further enhance their TV experience. Yahoo is the leader of the connected TV market by bringing the Internet to the living room. Video on demand, social networking, gaming, online shopping, and more, make it possible for consumers to personalize their new TV viewing experience.”
