Are you looking for valuable information? If you are, you can read magazines. These are publications that are regularly published. When you look inside, you will find many articles and other useful information. The contents will usually depend on the type of publication that you purchase. For instance, you can find publications on fashion, health, properties, and general information. The magazine is usually financed by companies who want to advertise. Readers can subscribe if they want to get a regular copy of the publication instead of purchasing from vendors, bookstores, or newsstands.

PC Magazine Article Archive: Enjoy Classic Articles from Our Archives

June 30, 2009 |11:42 | It Magazine  By : Team X

Ever feel nostalgic for some old technology from your past? My very first computer was a Timex Sinclair that I upgraded to 16K of memory. I fondly remember pushing on that flat-keyed keyboard. It's kind of fun to think about past computers and devices; it's even more fun to read about them.

We've collected a majority of the PC Magazine articles from 1992 to 1999 and created a utility that enables you to search for some of the gems from that period. Take this one from Dvorak's Inside Track column from 1992:

"Microsoft Corp. has shipped MS-DOS 6.0 to beta testers. DOS 6.0 is not going to see any major code changes, say observers, but will include a slew of new utilities, such as built-in antivirus scanning, disk defragmenting, elaborate backup systems, and data compression! The makers of utility software are grousing that this will put them out of business. DOS 6.0 is scheduled to ship in early 1993. Bankruptcy filings will appear elsewhere shortly thereafter."

GT5 Prologue Launches in Europe, Sells Out

April 1, 2008 |13:29 | It Gossips | It Magazine | It News | New Technologies  By : Team X

While we await for the final release of the greatest thing since sliced bread, we'll gladly settle for its prologue counterpart. We're so glad to settle, in fact, that Gran Turismo 5: Prologue's release in Europe has catapulted the game to the top spot on Amazon's UK site. It holds pole position (that's #1 in auto race talk, folks) in the PC and Videogames category on the online retailer. Furthermore, Play.com, one of the largest game stores in the UK, is reporting a sell-out for initial shipments.

Play.com has issued a message that initial shipments of GT5 Prologue, for March 25th, are all gone. If you place an order on or after today via Play.com, you will have to wait until March 31st for your order to be processed, and then-some for shipment time. What's especially impressive about this is it looks like PlayStation 3 owners still prefer the tried-and-true method of walking into a store (or going online) and actually owning a physical copy of a videogame.

We can't disagree. We also prefer to have a nice and sleek box, coupled with box art, booklet, and the actual disc. There's just something more satisfying about adding yet another gem to your library, as opposed to downloading it and having it stored on your hard drive. Still, if you prefer to go that route, you can always hit up your PlayStation Network account and drop 18-quid for the best damn racing experience ever...that is, of course, until the full thing becomes available. Remember, 60 cars, 6 tracks (with reverse and alternate routes), tuning, amazing physics, and online.

"Harry Potter", "Chocolate Rain" win YouTube awards

March 22, 2008 |18:34 | It Gossips | It Magazine | It News  By : Team X

A puppet show version of "Harry Potter" featuring a naked Dumbledore and an enigmatic song called "Chocolate Rain" by a Minnesota graduate student were among the winners of YouTube's second annual video awards, the Web site said on Friday.

Tay Zonday, a 25-year-old baritone PhD student in American Studies, won best music with his original song "Chocolate Rain," a rhythmic electric keyboard-backed number whose curious lyrics could be a political statement -- or humorous nonsense.

The song, one of about 30 videos Zonday has posted, has been covered by singer John Mayer and rockers Green Day, and he has performed it live on Jimmy Kimmel's late night talk show.

"I would say basically (I started) just like millions of other people making videos in their living rooms," Zonday told Reuters. "That's become so much a part of our lives."

A homemade version of the special effects-laden Harry Potter movies, called "The Potter Puppet Pals in 'The Mysterious Ticking Noise'" captured the comedy award.

The puppet show features an a capella song with an appearance by a naked, but not anatomically correct, Professor Dumbledore and an explosive ending.

Adobe merge on and offline worlds

February 25, 2008 |14:47 | It Gossips | It Magazine  By : Team X

Adobe has launched software designed to make it easier for computer users to use online applications offline.
Adobe Air allows developers to build tools that still have some functionality even when a computer is no longer connected to the net.

A free download will allow users of Macs, PCs and, later this year, Linux machines to run any Air applications.

The first programs that use the technology, developed by web sites such as eBay, have already been released.

"Air is going to allow applications that run on the web today - that run in the browser - to be brought down to the desktop," Andrew Shorten, platform evangelist at Adobe told BBC News.

"It's about taking existing web applications and adding extra functionality whether you want to work offline or whether you want to access data on your disk."

Seamless vision

Mr Shorten said that the technology is about replacing the web browser.

Many firms have already developed Air applications

PS3's HD-DVD killer title exaggerated

February 20, 2008 |15:23 | It Magazine  By : Team X

PUNDITS from the Blu-ray camp have been quick to claim that the adoption of Sony's PS3 is the only reason that the standard won the format war.

Indeed, the "CPU is the brian of the computer" team of hacks at the BBC claim that the inclusion of Blu-ray on the PS3 was the only reason the standard was able to bolster sales figures.

The evidence seems pretty clear Sony claims to have sold 10.5 million PS3 consoles since it was launched in late 2006. Tosh has only sold only one million HD DVD machines.

Now according to Tosh it sold 600,000 players in the US and of these 300,000 were attached to Xbox 360 HD DVD drives. There were 100,000 units were sold in Europe. And about 10,000 players and 20,000 recorders in Japan. So about 730,000 units worldwide.
